A Historic Homecoming for the SNHS
From the groundbreaking of the Ben Mondor Center for Nursing and Health Sciences to the inaugural Caring with Dignity Ceremony, Homecoming Weekend marked unprecedented milestones for the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. The weekend kicked off with the annual President’s Reception, featuring a School of Nursing and Health Sciences theme. As part of the festivities, Emily Antunes ’24, a health policy and management major, shared her PC experience both inside and outside of the classroom Adding to the excitement, Kirsten Meyers ’27 and Emma McCumber ’27, members of our inaugural class of health sciences students, provided guests with an up-close look at how SNHS students harness technology in the classroom by offering demonstrations of the Complete Anatomy software, which is utilized by all nursing and health sciences students in the Anatomy & Physiology course.

Saturday brought equal excitement as the School of Nursing and Health Sciences broke ground on its future home—the Ben Mondor Center for Nursing and Health Sciences. The ceremony featured remarks from College President Kenneth R. Sicard, O.P. ’78, ’82G, Dean Kyle J. McInnis, and other distinguished guests. Dean McInnis remarked, “This is where future nurses, healthcare professionals, researchers, and educators will engage in transformative learning experiences dedicated to improving the health and well-being of others.” The groundbreaking concluded with remarks from Shannon Sullivan ‘00, Chief Operating Officer of Women and Infants’ Hospital in Providence and a member of the newly established School of Nursing and Health Sciences advisory board. She emphasized how the groundbreaking reflects Providence College’s commitment to excellence in healthcare education and its dedication to enhancing our community and the broader healthcare industry.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony, the school welcomed students, families, and guests to explore the state-of-the-art academic spaces in the recently renovated Feinstein Academic Center.

The historic weekend reached an impactful peak on Sunday with the inaugural “Caring with Dignity” pinning ceremony for nursing students. President Father Sicard presided over this ceremony, which paid tribute to the dedication and compassion of nursing students who have chosen the noble path of caring for others. In front of their families and friends, each student received a pin as a symbol of their unwavering commitment to providing healthcare with dignity and respect, embodying the core values and mission of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

This historic weekend serves as a testament to the School of Nursing and Health Sciences’ dedication to excellence, innovation, and compassionate care.
