Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel

On February 11, 2025 the Providence College community dedicated the Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel. His Excellency Most Rev. Robert C. Evans, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Providence, presided over the Mass, blessing the Chapel as a sacred space for all who seek peace and spiritual connection. Members of our Dominican community concelebrated.
Father Thomas More Garrett, O.P., delivered a homily on the historical significance of Our Lady of Lourdes and the Chapel’s place within the College’s Catholic and Dominican tradition, as well as, its importance as a foundation for educating future caregivers. During his homily, he reminded attendees that the acts of healing learned in the Mondor Center for Nursing and Health Sciences reflect sacred healing as those experienced at Lourdes. And the hope that “humankind continues to explore the mysteries of its future, and how it might be healed.” As stated, the mission of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences is to produce skilled, empathetic, committed healers, educators, researchers, and health professionals who will have a profound impact on promoting equitable health and human dignity for all people.
