Unique to PC: An Academic Experience Like No Other

Simulation has given me the confidence to make decisions in real time. Practicing complex scenarios in a realistic hospital setting helped me refine my clinical judgment and learn how to communicate effectively as part of a care team.

Whether you’re studying nursing, health sciences, or health policy and management, at Providence College, you are a PC student first—fully engaged in all the College has to offer and welcomed as part of the Friar Family. Students in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SNHS) lead clubs, play Division I sports, and build meaningful, lifelong connections that define the PC experience. What makes the SNHS programs distinctive is what makes PC distinctive: a foundation in the breadth of the liberal arts and a commitment to the Catholic and Dominican mission.

At the heart of a Providence College education is the Development of Western Civilization (DWC) program, where students explore human history through literature, philosophy, theology, art, and more. Taught by faculty who champion interdisciplinary thinking and collaborative learning, the DWC program gives SNHS students a foundational academic experience they share with classmates from all majors.

Our SNHS programs are built on this liberal arts core, emphasizing a holistic approach to educating healers. We prepare students to become compassionate, ethical caregivers by integrating the art and science of caregiving with a focus on moral and ethical development. Through experiential learning and faculty-mentored research, students gain hands-on experience and address critical health issues, inspiring practices that shape the future of health care. Our commitment to global health also prepares students to reduce health disparities in Rhode Island and around the world.

In January, we will open the doors to the new Ben Mondor Center for Nursing and Health Sciences, a state-of-the-art facility that will raise the bar for nursing and health care education. This innovative space will enhance students’ clinical training and research opportunities, allowing them to master the latest in health care technology and simulation.

Students are encouraged to participate in PC’s renowned Honors Program, where academic excellence and a rigorous pursuit of knowledge are celebrated.

As a member of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, you join a community dedicated to preparing you to serve others with compassion and integrity—qualities that define both the PC experience and a career in health care.
